dear God, thank you for easily amused children

Who needs to spend money on toys anyway?

This little wonder is Levi's current favorite toy, and has been for the last two weeks. He carries it around the house with him as he crawls from room to room.

He obviously finds it both fascinating and exciting - one of the "adult" objects within his reach that's not forbidden. (Apparently it must taste good as well.)

The other day I caught him practicing his clapping while still holding his beloved doorstop with one hand.

And the day before that, I found it in the bathroom... a few hours after I found it under the couch in the office. This doorstop travels.

Dear friends, what are your children amusing themselves with these days?

stocking up on doorstops,

Josseyln's go to toy is the remote control... she's always crawling around with it and we can never seem to find it where WE left it.

that is too cute and boy he is so precious! He'd make a great BF for my little gal:). My daisy is still fascinated by small tupperware bowls and lids:).

Lol, that is too cute. He's changed so much even since I started reading your blog! What a big boy he is now!
Georgia's favorite "toy" is an old water bottle she took from my car. It's half full, and she loves carrying it around, pretending to pour it into her pots and pans, and pretending to drink from it.

He's such a doll! Doorstops are all the rage, man.

We're seriously considering gifting plastic bottles and utensils for our little one's birthday! He rarely plays with toys, but looooves to play in mommy's kitchen!

Ha! Q loves the doorstop, too. It's probably good for teething, but it makes me sick to think about how dirty it is. Probably because the doorstop was already there when we bought the house, so who knows where it's been? But Levi looks like he's really enjoying himself with that thing -- too cute!

My son loves the remote- and he can tell the difference between the one we let him have and the one that actually works! Same way with cellphones. And he loves his baby wipes! I use them sometimes to wipe him down after a meal and if it isn't too terribly yucky I let him have it and he will carry it around like a blanket!!

My little ones are 3 - 9 so they have much more sophisticated tastes in toys - they have been easily amazed by boxes carrying blogging goodness, magazines, catalog's and lately my kitchen utensils such as slotted spoons and bowls.

Niall is obsessed with my arms right now. I know, so random and weird. He starts grunting and gets these big wide excited eyes... and grabs my wrist and starts flopping my arm back and forth. But before that, he was really into my husband's work boots ;)

Isis has been all about this tupperware container with Lewis' empty contact case in it. She shakes it & throws it & bangs it & pretty much is just all about it! So simple! She's also obsessed with remote controls. I have an old one & I think I'm going to take the batteries out & just let her have it.

Annie cannot get enough of my metal measuring spoons, an old cell phone, and a damp baby wash cloth. Why do I even bother buying toys for my children?

My daughter has found that chasing plastic Wal-Mart bags around the kitchen to be fun. It's pretty fun to watch too!

What a cutie! Little Roo loves remote controls and my laptop. He likes to crawl over to it and pull the screen down! Oh and he'll try to put ANYONE's shoe in his mouth!

You asked,
[Dear friends, what are your children amusing themselves with these days?]

J1: a Nikon D-Something or Other
J2: a drummer in Queensland
J3: X-Box 360 or any computer that needs to be fixed, clean-up, devirused...

I recently found the twisty-spiral thingies -- those gizmos that protect your walls from doorknobs -- missing from my walls. Turns out my granddaughter loves to twist them off and play with them.

Doorstops are cheaper, softer, and safer. Might go out and stock up on those myself ;-)

My little guy is pretty amused by our remote control these days. Or the window blinds. Or our DVD boxes. Pretty much anything within reach has become a toy!

Hey Adriel! Lovely to see you are a fellow Lamby!

That boy is too cute for words, doorstop and all. My C's vice is any empty plastic bottle. I'm saving thousands in toys!

Apparently the toy of choice in our house is a sippy cup. Now, to clarify, neither of the boys yet knows how to drink from it, but they absolutely love shaking it and banging it on the ground. Thank god for spill proof!
