I have now joined the ranks of pro moms everywhere… I survived 10 days with a sick child.
I guess I’ve been pretty lucky to have made it almost nine months without Levi getting sick. He did have a pretty high fever (102+) a few weeks back for about three days – but it was completely manageable with panadol and there were no other symptoms… so I’m not sure that one really counts. (As soon as the fever reducer kicked in he was happy as always… not acting sick in the slightest.)
But this last bout with a virus was a doozy: Low grade fever. Deep chesty, juicy coughing fits. Sneezing galore. A constantly snotty nose (every shade snot imaginable). Sore throat. Breathing problems. Ear infection. Choking and gagging (on too much phlegm) at night. And generally just miserable.
You know the kind – when your baby is just not himself? When he cries at the drop of a hat? When he snuggles far too often and only picks at food that he normally devours?
Poor little bubba.
And even now—two weeks later—the cough lingers on and he continues to have little munchkin sized sneezes. But babe is back to his normal, happy, hungry self.
I am no longer covered in snot... from head to boobs to toes. (Ever tried breast feeding a snot machine?)
The nasty little virus has packed his bags and peace'd out. (I hope you didn't feel welcome here or plan to visit again any time soon, Mr. Virus.)
Yes, all is well in the Booker household.
We made it to the other side without too many battle wounds.
Thank you borrowed vaporizer. Thank you little jar of baby Vicks. Thank you tiny droppers of baby Panadol. Thank you saline spray. Thank you endless supply of tissues. Thank you comfy rocking chairs. Thank you late-night cuddles. Thank you helpful husband and friends. Thank you patience and grace and time.
And now I can proudly say I have joined the ranks of pro moms everywhere.
We are survivors.
I decided to jump back on the bandwagon.

So glad to hear he is feeling better! For both of your sakes! :)
ReplyDeleteOh boy. Those days are the worst! Glade to hear you got that nasty virus to hot the road!
ReplyDeleteIt's scary watching your little bubba struggle to breath...not fun memories for me but glade we got through it as well.
Good job mama :)
Congratulations! I'm glad you made you through with flying colors. The first time my son was sick, it started with a fever of 104.5 which had me racing to a special children's emergency room thirty minutes away only to find out it was just a double ear infection, which was not great for him, but certainly manageable for both of us. It was scary though. Wanted to let you know that I have been using your photo techniques and my pictures are definitely coming out better...having problems not using the flash though...still working on it!
ReplyDeleteWe're in the midst of something similiar right now:(
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad Levi is feeling better! It's always so horrible watching little ones feel miserable and knowing there's nothing more you can do for them but offer comfort. We just came out of a virus over here too, though it was short-lived this time. For us, we're in the midst of toddler negotiations. It seems like everything has turned into the battle of wills in my house - eating, sleeping and playing have all become areas to practice a little independence. Great for her, not so great for me :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a rough couple of weeks! I'm so glad your little guy is doing better. Oh yes, I remember when my son had his first bout of gastroenteritis at 9 months. Vomiting, fever...just gross.
ReplyDeleteNow...my 3 year old is dealing with high fevers, sore throat, and just feeling crummy. Hopefully tomorrow brings respite for her. These bugs need to take a hike.
Wishing you a much better week and that your little one stays healthy!
Oh, yes, these types of illness are awful. Eva had a vomiting virus when she was 4 1/2 months old, ended up in the ER with that one. Not fun! Then endless diarrhea followed for about 2 weeks! Then just in the last 3 weeks she had a bad sinus infection which turned into an earache. After two courses of antibiotics, she is finally doing better.
ReplyDeleteI really do think that she is more prone to illness, because she didn't get breastmilk as long as I would have liked her. yet another negative side effect of all of my boob issues in the begining. Formula will never compare to breastmilk. :(
Glad Levi is feeling better!
Ahhh - your little man was sick, too? What a bummer. I am glad he's doing better now.
